Two Hundred Forty-Nine Dollars for a Delaware Address

Dependable registered agent service throughout Delaware — $99 annually. That fee covers the office address, scanning of legal correspondence, and reminders for state filings.

Delaware cityscape

The publisher of this page is a competitor of the company it discusses. Delaware Registered Agent.ai occupies the Delaware registered agent role for $99 a year and profits when a reader moves. We make no claims about how LegalZoom performs the work, because we have no way to measure that. We do compare what each of us charges, using LegalZoom's published rate as recorded in July 2026.

Familiarity Is Worth Something

LegalZoom is the most recognized name in this industry by a wide margin, and recognition is not a trivial asset when a first-time filer is choosing a party to receive lawsuits on the company's behalf. A vendor with two decades of history and a national profile is unlikely to fold quietly and leave your entity unrepresented. Buyers paying for that assurance are not being irrational. They are buying a form of insurance, and insurance costs money.

Where the $249 Sits

The agent service is $249 per year and renews automatically at the same rate. We located no introductory discount, which is worth crediting: the figure that appears on the first invoice is the figure that appears on all of them.

It is also the highest flat annual rate among the nine Delaware providers we priced. The deliverable that $249 secures is a Delaware street address authorized to accept service of process, plus the forwarding of what arrives there. That description does not change from vendor to vendor. Delaware does not evaluate the agent's marketing, only whether an eligible party is listed and reachable at a real in-state office.

Delaware entities are frequently held for decades, since there is rarely a reason to dissolve one. The right-hand column is what the brand premium costs over that kind of horizon.

The rate is $99 in the first year and $99 in every subsequent year, with no automatic escalation written into the arrangement. A summons carried into our Delaware office is scanned and sitting in your email before that business day ends, which is the only element of this role with a clock running against it. Deadline notices go out in advance of the state's dates. Our Delaware address replaces yours in the public record. One add-on is available and it is published rather than concealed: $15 per item to scan general business mail that falls outside service of process.

Not the smallest number in Delaware, to be clear. BetterLegal quotes $90. Ours ranks among the lowest published rates in the state, and it is the same rate on renewal, which is the part of the sentence that does the work.

Replacing LegalZoom as Your Delaware Agent of Record

Delaware makes this cheap on one condition, and the condition is a matter of wording.

You file, with the Division of Corporations, a certificate of amendment whose caption limits it to changing the registered office and agent and nothing else. Delaware publishes its forms without numbers, so that heading carries the identity of the document, and it carries the fee with it. Captioned that narrowly, the certificate costs $50. Effect the identical change through a general certificate of amendment under 6 Del. C. § 18-202 and the charge becomes $180. No difference in outcome, $130 in fees, decided by a line of text at the top of one page.

Order of operations, which matters more than the fee. Retain us first and collect the registered office details we issue at signup. Complete and submit the certificate with the $50 fee. Leave the LegalZoom subscription running throughout, and cancel it only after the Division's public record lists the new agent. There must be no interval in which nobody holds the appointment: an unrepresented Delaware entity is a compliance defect the state notices and a plaintiff can exploit, and the fix costs far more than the week of overlapping billing that prevents it.
