Judging a Subscription by Its Second Invoice

Dependable registered agent service throughout Delaware — $99 annually. That fee covers the office address, scanning of legal correspondence, and reminders for state filings.

Delaware cityscape

Disclosure, before any numbers: Delaware Registered Agent.ai competes with ZenBusiness for this exact business and prices its Delaware appointment at $99 annually. Our commercial interest in your decision is total. The ZenBusiness figures cited are the ones ZenBusiness advertises, recorded during our July 2026 price check, and they are the only part of this page you should take on trust.

The Case in Favor of ZenBusiness

Product quality, and it is not close. Among the vendors selling registered agent service, ZenBusiness ships the most refined interface: an environment where entity records, filings, agent mail and compliance prompts coexist without the seams showing. Software of that standard is unusual in an industry that mostly ships forms. A buyer who plans to administer the company from a single screen, and who values not thinking about which vendor does what, is buying something coherent.

How the Standalone Purchase Is Structured

Two figures govern a standalone agent purchase from ZenBusiness. The introductory year is advertised at $99 plus state fees. Every year afterwards is $199.

Take the qualifier on the first figure seriously. Any state filing that rides along with the order is added to the advertised amount, so $99 describes the starting point of the invoice rather than its total.

Then take the second figure more seriously still. The gap between the two is $100, which means the renewal is roughly double the entry price for an unchanged service. Delaware requires the appointment for the entire time the entity exists, so a buyer holding the service for five years pays the introductory rate once and the renewal rate four times.

HorizonZenBusiness, standaloneDelaware Registered Agent.ai
Entry price$99 plus state fees$99
Recurring price$199$99
Five-year outlay$895 plus state fees$495
Ten-year outlay$1,890 plus state fees$990

Over a decade the columns diverge by nine hundred dollars, on a statutory duty both vendors discharge in precisely the same manner.

The Option No Software Can Supply

Delaware, unusually, does not insist that you hire anybody. The state's registered agent statute names the limited liability company itself before it names anyone else, in front of resident individuals and qualifying entities, so a Delaware LLC may lawfully serve as its own agent and pay no vendor at all.

What the statute wants in exchange is physical, and no dashboard can generate it. The registered office has to be a real Delaware address. The agent's business office has to be that same address. Somebody has to be generally present there during working hours, and a virtual office or a mail-forwarding arrangement is expressly disqualified. Those conditions are indifferent to how good your software is.

The result is that most Delaware companies cannot take the free route even though the law offers it, because Delaware attracts entities that have no operations in Delaware. If you keep a staffed office in the state, self-appointment is genuinely the cheapest lawful answer and we will not pretend otherwise. If you do not, the question is simply which vendor, at what recurring price.

Our Structure, Which Has No Second Stage

A single rate of $99, charged once a year, identical on every renewal for as long as the service continues. There is no entry price to expire because none was ever offered. Service of process delivered to our Delaware office is imaged and forwarded on the day of delivery. Compliance reminders precede the state's deadlines. Public filings carry our Delaware address rather than yours, and no tier exists above the plan.

The lowest advertised Delaware figure is not ours. BetterLegal prints $90. We describe $99 as one of the lowest flat rates in the state, a claim that survives inspection where the other one would not.

Handing the Delaware Appointment Over From ZenBusiness

In brief: a single certificate, $50, filed with the Division of Corporations under a caption restricted to the registered office and agent, and the sequence runs appointment first, filing second, cancellation third. Engage us, file, wait for the state record to show the change, and only then end the ZenBusiness subscription, so no interval exists in which nobody holds the appointment. The full procedure, including why that caption is worth $130, is set out on our Delaware change of agent page.
